This is the third year for Team Maisha to participate in our Climb Up event. This year they will be doing the Greenwater River hike - located in the Cascade Mountain range near Mt. Rainier.

Last year they won the safari to Namibia courtesy of CrissCross Namibia Safari and CheapOair.

Here is what they said about their experience:

"Hi guys – just wanted to tell you that we are back from our adventures. Just a 44 hour adventure just to get home, but it is great to be home, but this trip was amazing to say the least. Everything went incredibly well – the flights, the tour, everything. Mike and I were glad to have the bearings on one the car wheels freeze up once we got out of Lion Country (Etosha) – because it gave us half a day down time….. Needless to say we were on the go every single day – that country is large. Even the two flat tires at the same time did not stop us from anything…. It was all a part of the African experience – and learning about it’s road infrastructure.

This trip was incredible – just amazing, mostly due to Thinus Blaauw. It was not just a 10 day safari trip but an educational tour of Namibia. Our tour guide had previously been a principal for a Catholic Boarding School (most of the schools are Boarding schools) Northern region of Namibia. He worked in the education field, and helped start AIDS instruction way back then. He decided to get into politics during the Angola War (which was located close to his home and school)~ his small son found a landmine at the front of their home, he had an ak47 in his classroom for protection and the danger was increasing – wouldn’t that be wild?? Thinus was given the opportunity to get into politics – and this was the time when Namibia was getting independence from South Africa, so one of his functions was to help write the country's constitution but researching other countries and working with the 12 ethnic groups within the country to have a working document. Thinus was involved in politics for many years, even in meetings with Henry Kissinger! and then started working for a Development company that worked with the Namibian government in growing opportunities for the various tribes, etc in the country. His stories, family background and information we received were more than fascinating. Yes we saw many zebras, giraffes and assorted beautiful animals, an astonishing beautiful landscape and lodges, but learning about this country was such an exceptional experience – truly a gift. I am going to do a photo book, and will share with you, but not sure how to capture all the education both Mike and I received. Such an interesting country, such challenges for them."
