. . . and help save a child's life!

Climbing for Charity

Climbing is an ideal activity for athletes interested in participating in Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up. Whether participants prefer indoor climbing, outdoor climbing or even urban climbing, most will be able to find a challenge that will test them and act to rally sponsorship among family, friends and coworkers.

Climb Up is a self-directed charity challenge; participants are asked to create their own event and recruit sponsors to benefit African children with AIDS. With just a small amount of effort, Climb Up participants are “Climbing for Charity.”

Climbing offers a variety of styles and disciplines that match well with creating a Climb Up challenge. Creativity has been the norm and past participants have created many different types of personal and group challenges.

Indoor Climbing

Indoor climbing is among the most popular forms of climbing and has been very popular among Climb Up participants. Indoor climbing gyms eliminate the negative effects of weather; indoor climbing makes individual training and holding group events an easy way to participate in Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up. Furthermore, indoor climbing facilities are particularly well suited to involving younger climbers since they can train and participate in events in a safer, more controlled environment.

Indoor climbing gives participants the ability to create a set of unique challenges and events that other types of climbing don’t offer. Furthermore, past participants have found that some activities particularly lend themselves well to fundraising. They include:

Climbing Contests – Assembling groups is much easier at an indoor climbing gym

Climbing Lessons – Offer climbing instruction and donating the resulting fees

Youth Climbing Events – Whether an event or gym “lock in,” youth events work well

Outdoor Climbing

Outdoor climbing has worked well for individuals and groups that prefer climbing natural faces. With the variety of activities that outdoor climbing offers, the possibilities to participate in Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up are almost endless. Some of the more popular past outdoor climbing events that make fundraising easier include:

Outdoor Climbing Difficulty  – Climbing particularly challenging outdoor routes

Climbing Trip – Organize a trip to a special outdoor climbing location

Climbing Variety – Visit different outdoor climbing locations over a summer

Urban Climbing

Urban climbing offers a number of opportunities to participate in Climb Up So Kids Can Grow up too. Unlike the the radical (and often illegal) practice of climbing tall urban buildings (aka Buildering), urban climbing as an activity for a Climb Up challenge can offer fundraising opportunities that can be equally challenging without legal trouble.

Urban climbing challenges have been taken by a number of participants, many of which have focused on:

Section Challenges - Traversing small sections of challenging structures or buildings

Stair Climbing - An urban climbing challenge every one can understand

Bouldering - Climbing boulders available within city limits
